Prévalence et facteurs associés à la transmission du VIH de la mère à L'Enfant dans la commune de Kloto 1 au Togo

Introduction: Mother-to -child transmission (MTCT) remains the main source of new paediatric HIV infections. The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence and factors associated with mother-to-child transmission of HIV infection in the municipality of Kloto 1. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective descriptive and analytical study conducted from April 18 to May 20, 2024. The study population consisted of HIV -infected mothers and their infants aged between 18 and 24 months undergoing PMTCT. Results: The median age of the mothers was 29.5 years, 44.0% had secondary education and most came from urban areas (63.0%). The prevalence of mother-to-child transmission of HIV was 3%. Among infants, there was a predominance of females (59%), with a sex ratio of 0.69. The factor associated with HIV transmission was cessation of breastfeeding after 12 months (p:0000). Conclusion: Action must be taken to improve male involvement in PMTCT services. This could lead to the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV in our developing communities.
